ASTM Grade LCC (J02505) Cast Carbon-Manganese Steel

ASTM grade LCC steel is an alloy steel formulated for casting. Cited properties are appropriate for the normalized and tempered condition. LCC is the ASTM designation for this material. J02505 is the UNS number.

It has the lowest base cost among cast alloy steels. In addition, it has the lowest embodied energy and a moderately low electrical conductivity.

Alloy Composition

Among cast alloy steels, the composition of ASTM grade LCC steel is notable for containing comparatively high amounts of manganese (Mn) and silicon (Si). Manganese is used to improve hardenability and surface quality. Silicon content is typically governed by metallurgical processing concerns, and not its effects on final material properties. However, it does have a modest strengthening effect.
