EN 1.4008 (GX7CrNiMo12-1) Cast Stainless Steel

EN 1.4008 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel formulated for casting. Cited properties are appropriate for the quenched and tempered condition. 1.4008 is the EN numeric designation for this material. GX7CrNiMo12-1 is the EN chemical designation.

It has the lowest tensile strength among the cast martensitic stainless steels in the database.

The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare EN 1.4008 stainless steel to: cast martensitic stainless steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means it's 50% of the highest, and so on.

Alloy Composition

Among cast stainless steels, the composition of EN 1.4008 stainless steel is notable for containing comparatively high amounts of nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr). Nickel is primarily used to achieve a specific microstructure. In addition, it has a beneficial effect on mechanical properties and certain types of corrosion. Chromium is the defining alloying element of stainless steel. Higher chromium content imparts additional corrosion resistance.

Iron (Fe)Fe 81.8 to 86.8
Chromium (Cr)Cr 12 to 13.5
Nickel (Ni)Ni 1.0 to 2.0
Manganese (Mn)Mn 0 to 1.0
Silicon (Si)Si 0 to 1.0
Molybdenum (Mo)Mo 0.2 to 0.5
Carbon (C)C 0 to 0.1
Phosphorus (P)P 0 to 0.035
Sulfur (S)S 0 to 0.025

All values are % weight. Ranges represent what is permitted under applicable standards.
