EN 1.4590 (X2CrNbZr17) Stainless Steel

EN 1.4590 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Cited properties are appropriate for the annealed condition. 1.4590 is the EN numeric designation for this material. X2CrNbZr17 is the EN chemical designation.

It has a fairly high ductility and a moderately high thermal conductivity among wrought ferritic stainless steels.

The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare EN 1.4590 stainless steel to: wrought ferritic stainless steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means it's 50% of the highest, and so on.

Alloy Composition

Among wrought stainless steels, the composition of EN 1.4590 stainless steel is notable for including zirconium (Zr) and niobium (Nb). Zirconium is used to improve ductility and oxidation resistance. Niobium is primarily used to improve yield strength, particularly at elevated temperatures.

Iron (Fe)Fe 79.7 to 83.7
Chromium (Cr)Cr 16 to 17.5
Manganese (Mn)Mn 0 to 1.0
Silicon (Si)Si 0 to 1.0
Niobium (Nb)Nb 0.35 to 0.55
Zirconium (Zr)Zr 0 to 0.15
Phosphorus (P)P 0 to 0.040
Carbon (C)C 0 to 0.030
Sulfur (S)S 0 to 0.015

All values are % weight. Ranges represent what is permitted under applicable standards.
